Sunscreen is one of the most important steps in a daytime skincare routine. But with so many numbers and terms on sunscreen bottles, choosing and using the right one can feel confusing.
Let’s break down SPF, PA ratings, and how much sunscreen you actually need.

What does SPF mean?

SPF stand for Sun Protection Factor.It mainly indicates the level of protection a sunscreen provides against UVB rays. Which are associated with sunburn.
For everyday use,many people choose a broad specturm sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.A higher SPF does not mean you can stay in the sun without reapplying.

What does PA+++ means?

PA is a rating system used to indicate protection against UVA rays.
UVA rays can contribute to premature skin aging and pigmentation. The more “+” signs, the higher the UVA protection indicated by the PA system.
PA+ — some UVA protection
PA++ — moderate UVA protection
PA+++ — high UVA protection
PA++++ — extremely high UVA protection

When choosing sunscreen, look for broad-spectrum protection so that the product protects against both UVA and UVB radiation.

How much sunscreen do you need?

Using too little sunscreen can reduce the protection you actually get from the product.
A commonly used practical guide is the two-finger method: apply enough sunscreen to cover the length of your index and middle fingers for the face and neck. The exact amount can vary depending on the product and the size of the area you’re covering.
Don’t forget commonly missed areas such as the ears, neck, and other exposed skin.

When should you apply sunscreen?

Apply sunscreen as the last step of your morning skincare routine, before makeup if you’re wearing it.
Give it time to form an even layer according to the product’s directions before going outside
.

Do you need to reapply sunscreen?

Yes. Sunscreen can wear off through outdoor activity, sweating, swimming, or rubbing.
If you’re spending time outdoors, reapply approximately every two hours, or more often when the product instructions recommend it, especially after swimming or heavy sweating
